During 12th SCSLSA we will have a Special session "Broad lines in AGNs: The physics of emission gas in the vicinity of super-massive black hole" organized in memory of the life and work of dr Alla Ivanovna Shapovalova.
The central part of active galactic nuclei (AGN) is assumed to have a super-massive black hole, surrounded by an accretion disc and a gaseous region which emits broad lines, so called broad line region (BLR). To investigate the innermost part of an AGN, one can explore the observed broad lines, i.e. their shapes and variability during short or long-term monitoring campaigns. With this session we are going to collect a number of lectures concerning broad line investigations in AGN, especially those which explore broad line profiles and line (continuum) variability.
This Session is devoted to Dr. Alla I. Shapovalova, who sadly passed away in January 2019, a pioneer in AGN investigations and AGN monitoring campaigns. She started with the AGN investigations in early 70s of the last century, and was working practically to the end of her life (her last paper about monitoring of NGC 3516 will appear in 2019).
The lectures presented on this Special Session will be published in Open Astronomy as a Special Issue of the journal. Link to the template and the instructions for authors can be found in the supplementary information on the journal webpage.
The deadline of the paper submissions for this special issue of the Open Astronomy is July 31, 2019.
